Qualcomm Partners Tianyu for New 3G and 4G Patent License Agreement in China

(Photo : Getty Images) Qualcomm has granted Tianyu a royalty-bearing patent license to manufacture and sell 3G WCDMA and CDMA2000, which includes EV-DO, and 4G LTE, which includes 3-mode GSM, LTE-TDD, and TD-SCDMA subscriber units for use in China. The company has also announced deals with Qiku, Xiaomi, a joint venture between Qihoo 360, Coolpad, ZTE, Huawei, and TCL Communication Technology Holdings.
Qualcomm Incorporated has partnered with Beijing Tianyu Communication Equipment Co., Ltd. to announce a new 3G and 4G patent license agreement in China.
Qualcomm Inc. has picked up more patent licensing deals in China, which is a sign of progress in protecting a business that provides more than half of the profits of the chip maker. The San Diego-based chipmaker has made a series of similar agreements over the past two months as it recovers from the Chinese government's antitrust agreement.

Instead of the company's wholesale price, Qualcomm will calculate royalties based on 65 percent of the net selling price of devices. The inancial terms of its latest deals were undisclosed.
Eric Reifschneider, the senior vice president and general manager of Qualcomm Technology Licensing for Qualcomm Incorporated, mentioned that the company is pleased to support Chinese companies support like Tianyu as part of their long-term collaboration with China's mobile industry.
Tianyu Chief Executive Officer Madam Rong Xiuli claimed that the company respects the value of the license they have obtained to Qualcomm's Chinese wireless IPRs. The company is pleased to sign this license agreement that provides the opportunity to improve and expand the its product offerings in China and certain overseas markets, she said.
Tianyu's royalties are consistent with the terms of the rectification plan that Qualcomm had submitted to China's National Reform and Development Commission.
