Samsung's Exynos 8870 processor, which is yet to be launched, will reportedly be used in one of Lenovo's devices.

A China-based source claims that one of Samsung's new clients for the upcoming chipset is Lenovo. No further details have been given yet regarding the Lenovo device, which will be packing the Exynos 8870 SoC.

Meizu's flagship Pro 6 may also be packing Samsung's Exynos 8870 processor, according to a recent report. Details about Samsung's Exynos 8870 is scarce at the moment, but it is likely to be a less powerful variant of the high-end system-on-chip (SoC) Exynos 8 Octa 8890 that was set to go into mass production in late 2015.

Meizu was said to be the first handset maker that will utilize the new Exynos 8870 processor in a new flagship smartphone - the Meizu Pro 6. The device is expected to have a 6-inch full HD display. However, this seems to be untrue since Lenovo is also making waves for planning to use the chipset. Meizu launched its flagship smartphone Meizu Pro 5 earlier this year featuring Samsung's Exynos 7420 octa-core processor.

Exynos 8890 premium processor has already been unveiled. It is built on 14 nm FinFET fabrication process and features the first custom-designed CPU of the company based on 64-bit ARMv8 architecture. Samsung claims that compared to the previous generation Exynos 7 Octa, its new processor provides up to 30 percent improvement in performance and power efficiency of up to 10 percent.

Exynos 8870 is a slightly downgraded version of the Exynos 8890, but is cost effective for devices and provides good battery life. The new Exynos 8 Octa has an LTE Rel.12 Cat.12/13 modem. This allows maximum download speeds of up to 600Mbps (Cat.12) and upload speeds of up to 150Mbps (Cat.13) with carrier aggregation.

Meizu and Lenovo will not be the only handset makers that will be using the new Exynos chipset. A new BlackBerry smartphone was spotted in GFXBench listings, suggesting that the company may be testing Samsung's Exynos chips usage in its devices.
