Chinese police are using technology to support their law enforcement operations. In Guangdong province, drones are being employed in the fight against drugs and other crimes.
Zhou Yongkun, Party chief of Huidong's Baihua township, said there are currently five drones being used in their operations. He said the drones have provided accurate data resulting in the arrest of notorious drug traffickers and producers in Huidong county.

Zhou said Huidong used to be a major production headquarters of the date rape anesthetic ketamine, but the police have successfully destroyed the drug den and arrested the drug lords with the help of drones.
"Drones fly every day, mainly over local mountains, forests, large orchards and other target areas where police officers find it difficult to patrol and where secret drug dens might hide," Zhou said.
Zhou said the ketamine production in Huidong represented a third of the total drug supply nationwide at one time and around 1,000 police operatives were able to take down the drug ring in October 2013.
The city government was so impressed with the success of the operations that it allocated 100 million yuan ($15.4 million) for the police to step up its drug crackdown .
Zhou said the money was not only spent on drones, but also on giving reward to tipsters and police officers who have arrested major drug suspects over the past two years.
More than 75 Party and government officials in Huidong have been investigated and prosecuted for coddling illegal drug producers and tipping off gangs during drug raids.
The series of drug raids in Huidong county over the years resulted in the removal of the once notorious place from the list of major drug production areas in the mainland last year.
