Apple's Siri could come to Mac OS computers soon based on a new patent called "Intelligent Digital Assistant in a Desktop Environment."

The recent patent may add Siri on the coming desktop upgrade, OS X Yosemite.

Apple's virtual assistant technology has been a standard iOS feature since 2011 but the company has yet to offer it under OS X. The new patent sighting is gaining a lot of attention with its promise to bring Siri to Mac users.

Analysts suggest Apple's future depends on its desktop business that won't fade out anytime soon.

According to AppleInsider, the virtual assistant patent for Mac describes a new technology that is even beyond Mac's existing voice dictation feature. It can be considered "Siri for Mac."

Similar to the existing version of Siri exclusive to iOS, the computer version will be able to process natural text and speech input to input and retrieve data, complete tasks, conduct searches and more.

Siri for desktop will perform speech recognition to understand and remember contextual hints.

Siri has several compelling features when combined with Apple's Continuity and adding voice recognition to the Mac OS makes sense. Continuity lets users move from iOS to Mac OS and vice versa, adding more iCloud cross platform integration.

Some people are wary that similar to a fingerprint sensor on Macs and Macbooks, Siri might not work well with Macs. Fingerprint sensors on PCs have never gained any traction.

Siri could be plagued by the same problems. Fingerprint sensors aren't widely used on mobile and might be more underused on Macs.

The Mac business is lucrative and has been outperforming many competitors, according to Business Insider. It has a slow but steady growth and performance despite cheaper alternatives.
