China's Athletics hero Liu Xiang announced on Saturday that he is in a new relationship following his divorce six months ago.

In his Sina Weibo account, Liu, one of most popular athletes in China, posted a picture of two hands enlaced by a red thread in little fingers. In Chinese culture, this means that two people are in love with each other. He also referred to Wu Sha, a pole vaulter who is believed to be his date.

Wu, 30, has won the pole vault title three times; at the Asian Junior Championships held in Bangkok, Thailand in 2002, at the Asian Athletics Championships the following year in Manila, Philippines and in 2011 in Kobe, Japan.

Liu, a Shanghai native, is the only male athlete in history to have achieved the "triple crown" in the event of 110-meter hurdles; being the World Record Holder, World Champion and Olympic Champion.

The retired hurdler is one of China's most successful athletes and has emerged as a cultural icon in the country.  According to Xinhua, Liu rose to fame when he won the 110-meter hurdles at the 2004 Athens Olympics, equalling Collin Jackson's of Great Britain world record of 12.91 seconds.

His 2004 Olympic gold medal was the first in a men's track and field event for China.  He became the World Champion by winning the gold medal in the 2007 World Athletics Championships in Osaka, Japan.

Liu never stepped back on the track after getting an injury in the 2012 London Olympics. He eventually retired in 2014.

Liu is known for his low-profile appearance, but he has become one of the most popular athletes in China.

Last June, the former 110-meter hurdler ended his nine-month marriage to actress Ge Tian.
