One of the finest Chinese porcelain collections in history will be put up for auction, with an overall estimated price of over $28.8 million.

According to the Guardian, Sothebey's is selling more than 100 objects that were acquired by the late British collector Roger Pilkington in the early 1950's and 60's.

Pilkington, who passed away on May 5,2003 at the age of 88, is a well known archeologist and writer.

Sotheby's Asia deputy chairman Nicholas Chow said that this particular collection is something that people will remember for decades seeing as it is very rare to see such a collection on the market.

"The items listed for the auction come mostly from the early and the late Ming Dynasty and are very hard to acquire in this day and age." said Chow.

The Roger Pilkington Collection includes Chinese porcelain that was produced during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907), Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

The highlights of the auction include a rare Chenghua Blue and white palace bowl from the Ming Dynasty and an unusual blue and white Holy water vessel. The palace bowl alone is estimated to sell between $5.8 and 6.8 million, while the vessel is expected to sell for $4.3 million to 5.8 million.
The vessel, from the Yongle Period (1403-1424) of the Ming Dynasty, was inspired by vessels from Tibetan Buddhism.

The auction will be held in Hong Kong on April 6th. However, the collection will be on display for public viewing at Sotheby's London on January 17 and 18.
