Basketball News: Jianlian Yi of Guandong Southern Tigers Bags Player of the Week Award in CBA League

(Photo : gettyimages.com) Jianlian Yi of the Guandong Souther Tigers has been named Player of the Week in the CBA.
Chinese basketball superstar and former NBA player Jianlian Yi of Guandong Southern Tigers had a very impressive game against the Jilin Northeast Tigers when his team won 118-114, earning him the right to be named Asia-Basket Player of the Week for the 30th round of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league.

The 28-year-old Chinese big man displayed remarkable skill on the night with a double-double production of 48 big points and 10 rebounds. The Southern Tigers currently sit on the sixth place in the league's team standings with 21 wins and 9 losses.
Jianlian had an amazing shooting in the team's last match, shooting 63.0 percent from the 2-point range. The veteran player averages 26.7 points per game and 9.6 rebounds per outing in the current season.
Jianlian Yi is the 2007 NBA draft sixth overall pick selected by the Milwaukee Bucks. He became a starter for the lclub. In his stint with the Bucks, Yi was named Rookie of the Month in December 2007 after averaging 12.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game that month.
In his rookie year in the NBA, he scored his career-high 29 points in Bucks win against the Charlotte Bobcats on December 22, 2007. The Chinese superstar was also selected to play for the rookie team in the Rookie Challenge at the 2008 NBA All-star Game.
Yi also played for the New Jersey Nets, Washington Wizards and the Dallas Mavericks in the National Basketball Association. In the league's 2011-12 season, the Chinese basketball star averaged 7.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 0.7 assist per game.
Yi is a veteran of international tournaments, playing for the Chinese men's national team in 2005, 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2015. He was the FIBA Asia Championship Most Valuable Player in 2011 and 2015.
He has four CBA titles and four CBA finals MVP awards under his belt in the eight year of his CBA career. Yi is reportedly the highest-paid Chinese basketball player in the land with over US$1.6 million per year.
