The New York Knicks' search for their ideal starting point guard continues and the team now sets its sights on the Hawks' floor general Jeff Teague as Atlanta reportedly have made him available during this trade season.

Rumors went out that the Hawks are shopping the 27-year-old Teague, their starting point guard, because team officials wanted to give current backup Dennis Schröder the opportunity to become their starter.

With both players performing at starter level, it makes sense for Atlanta to choose to keep either one and try to dangle the other in hopes of getting another key player to their rotation. Of the two, Schröder is the younger one at 22 and he also seems to possess the most upside compared to Teague.

Meanwhile, Yahoo Sports' Chris Mannix, as cited by Oregon Live, confirmed that the "Hawks had been soliciting offers for Teague or Dennis Schröder, per rival execs. Though recently they have focused more on Teague" and the Knicks are one of the teams interested in making a deal.

New York had been looking for a viable replacement to their aging starter, 34-year-old Jose Calderon, and had been linked to several point guards this season, including the Detroit Piston's Brandon Jennings and Minnesota Timberwolves' Ricky Rubio.

This is another opportunity that the Knicks can't miss as Teague certainly would be an instant upgrade at the no. 1 guard spot over Calderon.

The New York Post reported that the "Knicks and Hawks have conducted 'very preliminary' trade talks" regarding Teague, but there are concerns about what or who can the Knicks give in return for the 2015 NBA All-Star point guard.

"It makes sense for the Knicks, but what do they have to offer?" said an anonymous rival executive. "Teague is a good player under control for a low figure ($8 million) next year and then he'll enter the richest free-agency period ever."

Teague is averaging 14.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.3 steals in 28.4 minutes per night in 47 games so far for the Hawks this season.

Atlanta is currently at the no. 4 spot in the Eastern Conference with a win-loss record of 28-22. New York is at no. 10 with a 23-27 slate, three games behind no. 8 team Indiana Pacers, and on the outside looking in to a possible playoff appearance this April.
