(Photo : Reuters) A new free app called Never10 can block Microsoft's attempts to force users to download and install the Windows 10 OS.
Tech giant Microsoft has announced that it will start forcing Windows 10 updates on all systems that are eligible for the free update. Since this is a forced update, not much can be done by users to stop it as Microsoft is tagging the Windows 10 update as Recommended. This means that, if the system is eligible, it will be automatically downloaded and will also try to attempt a full install.

A Microsoft spokesperson told The Verge that, "As we shared in late October on the Windows Blog, we are committed to making it easy for our Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 customers to upgrade to Windows 10. We updated the upgrade experience today to help our customers, who previously reserved their upgrade, schedule a time for their upgrade to take place."
Many tech analysts believe that the transition to Windows 10 is essentially a good move. While there are privacy concerns, these can be mitigated if not completely dismissed. On the other hand, older versions of Windows, like Windows 7 or Windows XP, are more susceptible to malicious attacks compared to Windows 10.
Users who are not satisfied with the forced upgrade will also have the choice to roll their system back to the previous version of Windows.
Nontheless, the forced Windows 10 upgrade might annoy some users. For one, Windows 10 takes a huge chunk of storage space and systems with limited drive space might end up deleting some of their files in order to make room for the massive update.
The forced upgrade is considered a background download and this might instigate data overages, especially for users who connects their system though cellular connections.
Microsoft said that if users don't have any problems with the above mentioned limits, they are highly encouraged to update their systems. In any case, users always have the option to opt-out of any Windows 10 upgrade prompts.
