Display and biometrics company Synaptics has unveiled a new technology that it developed in collaboration with automotive supplier Valeo. The new technology aims to provide drivers an easier control of their car's touchscreen features.
The aptly named Synaptics ClearForce technology not only provides complete touchscreen controls, but also combines haptic feedback and force sensing. This is a new and innovative way of controlling a car's electronic features.

Synaptics and Valeo flaunted this new technology at the recent 2016 Consumer Electronics Show, an annual event known for its tech-centric theme.
Synaptics CEO and President Rick Bergman told Venture Beat that, "We all know out voice experience isn't always great in cars. You'll see this technology used side by side with others. You don't have to interrupt your music to initiate navigation."
By integrating ClearPad, ClearForce touch, and force-sensing technology into a single chip, Synaptics is aiming to make a huge impact in the infotainment aspect of a car's design. The company is hoping that the market will continue to grow as the industry slowly moves towards autonomous and self-driving cars.
With Synaptics' new technology, a mere touch on one of the touchscreen will prompt an immediate action. Aside from touch technology, it will also provide haptic feedback on the user's fingertips. Synaptics believe that by incorporating haptic feedback, its technology can improve car interface and will give both drivers and passengers more control.
According to Slash Gear, Synaptics' force touch technology is in some way similar to Apple's Force Touch. A hard press on the touch screen will create a different reaction than a single tab on the screen will do.
Car touchscreens created by Synaptics also has "moisture performance." A technology integrated into smartphone screens, which essentially makes them waterproof.
The technology is still in its early evaluation stage from equipment manufacturers. Valeo is one of the many companies that aims to deliver the new technology into the market. Synaptics believe that once tests are done, the tech will be ready to roll out in 2017.
