During a press conference, Guo said that this year, the consular department will concentrate on addressing the problems of visa issuance among outbound Chinese businesses.
The Belt and Road Initiative is a development strategy put forward by Chinese president Xi Jingping three years ago. It focuses on enhancing connectivity and unity to foster development particularly in Eurasia.
Guo revealed that last year, almost 80,000 cases were provided with consular assistance and protection. According to him, several Chinese firms were given projects to work on, but their staff were prevented from traveling because of some visa problems.
With the new regulations, such problems can be solved easily. Guo said that the ministry will permit two-way business visa exemptions and ensure more convenience on visa arrangements especially for huge projections partnered with other nations. It will also boost consular protection provision.
Cao Yongfei, marketing manager of Turkey-based China Tianchen Engineering Corp., explains that when businessman enters a different country or place, risk for safety is always a top concern, as most of the these international businesses are set up in underdeveloped nations where security risk is high.
Cao said that the ministry will extend its hand to Chinese firms that are handling overseas operations to enhance their security and protection. It also advised them to take advantage of the services of overseas insurers, local security establishments and rescue organizations.
Chinese netizens are now allowed to travel to more than 50 destinations using their passports and get visas upon arrival.
