Bryant, who finished the game with a team-high 19 points, put the Lakers on an 82-79 advantage with 2:30 remaining on the clock with a three-pointer, pushing nthe home crowd to roar and chant "Ko-be, Ko-be".
"These fans were always very tough. It's as close to a college basketball atmosphere as you can get," the five-time NBA champion said. "They've always been pretty tough on me here. And tonight at the end, to get a 'Thank you' chant from them, it was pretty special."
However, Pacers star player Paul George and his teammates did not want to give the nostalgic ending to the retiring eighteen-time NBA All-Star. The 2013 NBA Most Improved Player scored six straight baskets in the last minutes of the game to help Indiana win the match.
George registered a game-high 21 points with 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 2 shot blocks. George Hill and Myles Turner chipped in 15 points and 14 points respectively.
"To finish the game off with the layup and the drive, him guarding, this one was an epic finish and a special finish," the 2014 NBA All-Defensive First team member said. "Just happy we won this."
Bryant made 6 of 25 shots from the field and connected 4 treys in his 14 attempts from the three-point region. The Western Conference Pacific Division team suffered their 43rd loss of the season, falling under the last bottom of the table, having won just 11 games in 54 matches played.
Indiana, on the other hand, improved to 28 wins with 24 losses and currently sit on the sixth place in the Eastern Conference team standings.
Indiana will host Charlotte and the Lakers will visit the Cavaliers on Wednesday.
