Italian Serie A club Inter Milan is said to be close to accepting English Premier League giant Manchester United's £34.9 million bid for I Nerazzurri striker Mauro Icardi, particularly if the team will not qualify to play in the UEFA Champions League next year.

Caught Offside reported the development, saying that Inter "told Manchester United that they will accept their £34.9 million offer (for Icardi) if they miss out on making next season's Champions League".

The Red Devils reportedly submitted a bid to La Beneamata for the Argentine forward during the recently closed January transfer window, but the latter rejected it.

With rumors spreading that the Internazionale team captain is having a falling out with head coach Roberto Mancini that led to a couple of games where he came off the bench, the Italian giants are said to be now open to selling him.

United is set to make a second offer to Inter at the end of the season and it looks like it will push through this time around.

However, the completion of the deal comes with a condition as the San Siro residents are allegedly only going to "accept the Red Devils' offer if their form in the second half of the season takes a nosedive", which will eventually make them miss the prestigious European tournament.

Metro noted that Inter is "currently outside those places in Serie A and are not favorites to make the cut, meaning a deal is firmly on the cards".

Inter is currently at the fourth spot of the Serie A league table with 45 points, a point behind third-running Fiorentina and 11 points clear of league leaders Napoli. Only the top three teams of the Italian top flight at season's end will qualify to the Champions League.

The team is not performing well lately, being winless in five of their last six outings, with their last match a 3-3 draw on the road against cellar dwellers Hellas Verona at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi last Sunday.
