Brazilian center Anderson Varejao, who is expected to be waived by the Portland Trail Blazers after being traded by the Cleveland Cavaliers in a three-way deal with the Orlando Magic that landed them power forward Channing Frye, is reportedly on the radar of the Golden State Warriors.

CBS Sports reported that the defending champions are "considering signing" the soon-to-be free agent big man and that his Brazilian national team teammate Leandro Barbosa may influence the squad to sign him up.
While Varejao is the odd man out in the Cavs' rotation that included bigs Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson, and Timofey Mozgov, the 33-year-old Colatina, Brazil native is still one of the most reliable post defenders and could also provide decent inside scoring.
Varejao is seldom utilized by Cleveland these past several years, especially last season when he averaged 9.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 0.6 blocks in 24.5 minutes per game. This season, he is averaging even less at 2.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 0.2 blocks per game in only 10.0 minutes a night. He played in 31 games for the Cavs before he was traded.
Reports said that if the Warriors push their interest on the 2010 NBA All-defensive Second Teamer, the team would have to release one player in its roster and the most likely candidate would be seven-year power forward Jason Thompson, who has not been a part of head coach Steve Kerr's rotation. Thompson is only playing 6.4 minutes per game and been amassing a lot of DNP-CDs.
Golden State will reportedly be missing the services of center Festus Ezeli "until the playoffs", according to Sports Illustrated, after he underwent arthroscopic surgery to clean out debris from his left knee, which is why the Warriors are searching for a big man to temporarily shore up their frontcourt depth.
Varejao has nothing to lose and everything to gain in signing with the Warriors as he could more likely win his first NBA title with the reigning champs if ever he does join them this season.
