Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimović is being tipped to become Jose Mourinho's first summer signing if the Portuguese manager takes over as Manchester United's new head coach at the end of the season.

Speculations abound that Mourinho will replace current Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal in the summer following the Old Trafford giants' disappointing 2015-2016 campaign where the team is now in danger of missing out next season's Champions League competitions, as per Caught Offside.

United is presently at the fifth spot of the Premier League table with 41 points, six points behind fourth-running Manchester City and 12 points clear off league leaders Leicester City. The top three finishers will directly qualify in the Champions League group stage while the fourth placer will qualify to the playoff round of the said tournament.

Finishing fifth means that the Red Devils will only qualify to the Europa League group stage.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid coach is said to be the apple of the eye of United's officials to take the reins from the 64-year-old van Gaal next season.

With that, Mourinho is reportedly keen on making Ibrahimović his priority signing this summer to improve United's scoring options, something that the team is clearly lacking during their current campaign.

When asked by reporters of a possible switch to the EPL, Ibrahimović simply said "big things will happen" when his contract with PSG expires also this summer and that "I am in shape for it", referring to playing in England, as per the Mirror.

The 34-year-old Swedish forward was a player of Mourinho during their time together with Inter Milan in 2008-2009 and have had a good chemistry between them.

Mourinho was reportedly trying to lure Ibrahimović to play for him at Chelsea next season, but since he was sacked by the Blues in December, he could still continue his pursuit for the 6-foot-5 Sweden national team captain with United.
