English Premier League powerhouse Manchester United is reportedly preparing a £20 million summer swoop on ACF Fiorentina winger Federico Bernardeschi as the Old Trafford residents look to improve their offensive options next season.

The Red Devils are struggling and also in danger of missing next season's Champions League competitions as they are currently stuck at fifth place in the overall standings of England's top flight league.

Perhaps the most evident issue the team has is their lack of offensive options as new signing Memphis Depay proved to be a flop while resident striker Wayne Rooney has been out of form the whole season.

Another new signing, Anthony Martial, showed some promise with 10 goals in his so far 32 appearances for the club, but it is obviously inadequate if the Red Devils want to regain the EPL and Champions League titles.

Metro reported that United is eyeing a summer move for the Viola playmaker, with fellow cash-rich clubs Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain as potential rivals for the 22-year-old's signature.

The former Italy U-21 international is said to be one of head coach Paulo Sosa's key offensive players despite scoring only four times in 25 games in all competitions for I Gigliati this season as he helped lead the team to their current third place spot in the Italian Serie A table.

Fiorentina is just five points behind second-running SSC Napoli and six points adrift off current league leaders and defending champions Juventus FC in the overall standings.

Caught Offside noted that Bernardeschi "caught the eye of a number of onlookers" when he netted a goal for Fiorentina during their Europa Cup match with Tottenham Hotspur last week, and United is said to be one of the clubs that wanted "to take a closer look at his abilities".

Bernardeschi is under contract with the Florence residents until 2019, where he started his senior career in 2013. He was on loan for a season to Serie B team FC Crotone in 2013-2014, appearing in 39 games and scoring 12 times in all competitions for the Italian second division club.
