Tennis News: Zheng Saisai of China Beats Eugenie Bouchard of Canada, Advances to Qatar Open’s Quarterfinals

Women's Tennis Association world No. 73 Zheng Saisai of China defeated the current world No. 61 Eugenie Bouchard of Canada 7-6 (7/1), 6-1 to advance to the quarterfinal stage of the 2016 Qatar Open at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex on Wednesday night.

Zheng, who sensationally ousted the top seed and current world No. 2 tennis player of the WTA Geman Angelique Kerber, wrapped up the match in an hour and 35 minutes to eliminate the Canadian professional tennis player and progress to the final eight of the Doha-based tennis competition.

Zheng, 22, had a remarkable campaign at the recently concluded 2016 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship. She started tennis at the young age of eight and plays right handed (double hand backhand). She loves to play in the hard surface.

Zheng is one of the elite tennis players in China and achieved her career high singles ranking as world No. 61 on May 11, 2015 and world No. 22 in the doubles ranking on February 1, 2016. The native of Shaanxi is currently being coach by Alan Ma.

The top Chinese tennis ace will be facing the 18-year-old Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia, who currently hold the No. 88 spot in the world rankings, in the quarterfinals of the WTA Premier 5 category tourney,

Ostapenko, who started tennis at the early age of five and reached her career high singles ranking as world No. 77 on September 21, 2015, defeated the tournament's fifth seed and world No. 8 Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic 5-7, 6-2, 6-1.

The top seeded players of the tournament have almost all been eliminated. World No. 3 Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland (the number three seed) and world No. 5 Garbine Muguruza of Spain (the fourth-seeded) are the only remaining top seeded participants of the tournament.

Radwanska ousted Monica Niculescu of Romania 7-5, 6-1 and Muguruza eliminated the Hungarian Timea Babos 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the quarterfinals of the tennis event.
