Women's Tennis Association's world No. 11 Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain claimed her second career WTA title by defeating Latvian Jelena Ostapenko (world's rank No. 88) at the 2016 Qatar Open final 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 on Saturday.
"My aim at the start of the year was to win one title and to get inside the top 10. I am happy I have done both this week," said Suarez Navarro, whose world ranking is expected to improve from 11th to sixth on Monday, according to ESPN.

It was the 27-year-old Spaniard's first win on the WTA tour since Estoril in Portugal in April 2014. Last year, Suarez Navarro played in the finals in Miami, Rome and Antwerp but yielded to American Serena Williams, Russian Maria Sharapova and German Andrea Petkovic, respectively.
The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria-born player started her 2016 campaign on a positive note; she was able to reach the Brisbane International semifinal stage and the Australian Open's quarterfinals
On the other hand, Ostapenko, who ousted the Chinese top player and current world No. 73 Zheng Saisai in their quarterfinal match, came to Doha with just two match wins in five tennis tournaments that she has competed in so far this year.
Ostapenko, 18, who has won seven singles and eight doubles titles on the ITF tour in her career, broke Suarez Navarro twice in the first three games to go 3-0 up before claiming the opening set of the championship match 6-1.
The tourney's winner said that she got a little bit nervous knowing her opponent made a good start getting the better of her in the first set, but she continued to believe in her own ability and relentlessly fight.
"The win gives me a lot of confidence going forward in the season. I've lost a lot of finals so I'm really happy and excited about this tournament." Suarez Navarro stated.
