Asia's pre-eminent men's professional basketball league started awarding two separate MVP trophies to one foreign and one local player since the 2012-13 season.

According to Xinhua, the mechanics of the selections starts with 57 representatives from the media choosing the contenders for the award.  A player will be awarded five points for every "first-place vote", three points for each "second-place vote" and one point for each "third-place vote".

Beasley got a total of 193 points, overshadowing the 133 points garnered by the former NBA guard Lester Hudson of the Liaoning Flying Tigers.

Beasley, a back-to-back CBA All-Star Game MVP, is averaging 31.7 points and 13.2 rebounds per contest in the 37 games he has played this season.

He managed to steer the Shandong Golden Stars to the quarterfinals, finishing fifth place overall in the regular season.

With the honor, China's highest-paid basketball player Yi bags his fourth consecutive domestic MVP award. The former NBA player, who had stints with the Dallas Mavericks, Washington Wizards, New Jersey Nets and Milwaukee Bucks, got a total of 181 points with 24 first-place votes. He  beat countryman Guo Ailun of the Liaoning Flying Tigers, who gathered a total of 157 points.

The Guangdong's star player was averaging 26.7 points and 9.2 rebounds to go along with 2.1 assists and 1.3 blocked shots in 38 games played prior to the postseason. Yi is the CBA's leader in points per game for the local players in the league.
