"You just want to compete, and not back down from anybody," Thomas, who shot 11-of-20 form the field and hit 3-of-6 from the three-point area in 29.47 minutes of playing time, said. "They're two great guards that play at a high-level. Me and Avery love these type of games. We just like competing against the best."
Avery Bradley, who went 7 for 14 from the floor during the game, contributed 17 points, while Jared Sullinger and Marcus Smart shipped in 15 points each for the Celtics, who have won their fourth straight game in a row.
Boston outrebounded the Trail Blazers with a team-combined 57 boards compared to the 48 rebounds taken by Portland including the 19-12 advantage in offensive rebounding that allowed the Celtics to have more second chance points. The Celtics dominated the shaded area scoring 60 points, while the Trail Blazers made just made 34 points in the paint.
"I think all night their offensive rebounds, their putbacks hurt us, and their transition hurt us. We got some unfortunate bounces where the ball's kind of bouncing around and it came up with them," Portland head coach Terry Stotts said. "They kept the pressure on us all night at both ends."
The Celtics capped the third quarter with a 91-67 lead, Boston kept the distance in the fourth quarter with the scoreboard reading 116-91 with less than two minutes left to play.
Damian Lillard led Portland but was limited to just 20 points while shooting 8 for 17 from the field and CJ McCollum added 17 points.
