Liverpool forward Christian Benteke has reportedly turned down a lucrative offer from China to stay at the Anfield and fight for his future with Jürgen Klopp's upcoming new-look squad.

Reports are out that the 48-year-old head coach is planning on a major team overhaul this summer and that he had already identified the players in his summer transfer window wishlist and also the players that he wanted to keep from the existing roster.

Benteke may have felt that he is not among those who are pleasing in the eyes of Klopp and he is said to be keen on staying "with the Merseyside outfit and prove himself", Metro reports.

The 25-year-old striker had not met expectations since he was signed by then Reds head coach Brendan Rodgers last summer from Aston Villa for a transfer fee of £32.5 million. In his so far 22 appearances for Liverpool in the domestic top flight, he has scored only six goals. Overall, in 28 games in all competitions, he has only netted seven times.

Benteke had recently spent a lot of time in Klopp's bench during the Capital One Cup games, which have indicated that the Belgium international may be headed for an exit from the Liverpool outfit this summer.

Daily Mail Online indicated that Benteke is "determined to fight to change Klopp's mind" about him and that he "turned down opportunities to leave in January, including a lucrative offer from the Chinese Super League".

It was noted, though, that Benteke and Klopp remain to have a good relationship even though the Kinshasa, Zaire-born Belgian has been relegated behind countryman Divock Origi in the manager's striking pecking order.

Aside from Benteke, it was reported that starting goalkeeper Simon Mignolet and midfielder Joe Allen are also set to be sold by Klopp in the summer.

Benteke spent three seasons with the Villans, appearing in 101 games in all competitions and scoring 49 goals, before he was snatched by former Reds coach Rodgers last year.
