It was expected that the prestigious VMAs would be paying a kind of tribute to the late actor Robin Williams but the 20-second montage sparked outrage amongst the viewers. The tribute was slammed as 'disrespectful'.

The video composed of random photos of Williams which did not even highlight his best works as an actor. No one has announced or introduced the video when the playback started. The song 'A Sky Full Of Stars' from Coldplay was being played in the background as the montage showed one picture after another. It has been reported that there were only six pictures used for the said tribute. Right after the montage, the show proceeded to a commercial break.

Viewers took it to Twitter to comment on what MTV presented at the VMAs. A certain Chad Dukes tweeted: "That "tribute" to Robin Williams tells you everything you need to know about this show. It would have been less insulting to do nothing."

Another was from Sue Dusenberry who tweeted: "I watched the #VMAs and totally missed the Robin Williams 23 sec Tribute, Shame on U @MTV total disrespect on ur part!!"

Tyler Glenn, a Twitter user, took it a little bit lightly and joked: "Did someone push the "Robin Williams tribute" button by mistake?"

Kevin McHale voiced his opinion saying: "That Robin Williams tribute was offensive. #VMA2014"

Williams died last August 11 and it was due to depression leading to suicide. The Emmy Awards is also set to give tribute to Williams and people are hoping that the tribute will be much longer and proper.

The Ferguson tribute during the VMAs also caused confusion among the viewers because it was properly introduced and rapper Common was the one who asked for a moment of silence and even gave a speech for Michael Brown.

Critics have said that the Williams tribute should have at least announced PSAs about suicide or depression. Both the Michael Brown case as well as William's case were deemed important and should have been addressed equally.
