Google has launched the Android N Developer Preview for the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 LTE, Google Pixel C and other compatible devices.

The Nexus 5 is still not included on the list of first Nexus devices to get the Android N Developer Preview OTA update because it was released in 2013 - but it is poised to get the upgrade soon.

According to reports, the Nexus 5 (codename Hammerhead) was found on the Google Git repository, tagged with Android N Preview 1. This indicates that Google may launch the Android N preview for the device soon. The Android N OS was expected to be be launched in May during the Google I/O 2016 event, but Google is said to have changed the schedule and released the Developer Preview of the device this week instead.

Google will release five Android N preview editions before the final build. Below are the Android N Developer Preview 1 download links:

Users who wish to install this developer preview should understand that it comes with risks. However, Nexus devices are known to be robust and users will be able to enjoy a lot of cool new features including a multi-window mode for multitasking, an improved app switching function and a better bundled notification UI.

Users who have made changes to their device's core software or installed a custom ROM are advised to get the developer preview by flashing a system image and proceed with caution. They need to install the Android SDK on their computer and enable OEM unlock on the device. Then reboot into the bootloader and plug the device into the computer. Use a command prompt and trigger an OEN unlocking through fastboot oem unlock or fastboot flashing unlock. After downloading the system image, launch the flash.
