Former One Direction member Zayn Malik had remained mum about the reason for his break up with Little Mix star Perrie Edwards until his recent interview with Complex Magazine. During the interview, Malik reveals that as unbelievable as it may seem, he just plainly "fell out of love."

Malik and Edwards started dating in 2012. The two initially denied being together, but their relationship was eventually confirmed by Malik following an incident when paparazzi caught the couple kissing on a scooter.

The once-denied romance leveled up further when Malik announced his engagement with the 22-year-old singer after he proposed to her on Aug. 18, 2013. Malik gave Edwards a diamond ring which she proudly displayed for the first time at the This Is Us London premiere of One Direction.

In Aug. 2015, however, the lovebirds called off their engagement. Malik's representative first made the revelation and Edwards confired it during an interview with E!. Edwards said that she was feeling okay despite the break up. She was rescued from further questioning by fellow Little Mix member, Leigh Anne Pinnock. This is Malik's first time to talk about the issue after the engagement ended a year ago.

Malik is set to release his first solo album on Friday, March 25. This will be his debut project following his split from the Brit boy band in 2015  - a few weeks before he broke up with Edwards.
