Former TVB actors have been returning to their home network to star in new television dramas, which is why Gordon Lam Ka-tung was recently asked if he would also be interested in going back to TVB. However, the Hong Kong actor said that while he would collaborate with TVB again, his role would not be an actor, but instead a producer.

Gordon spent about 10 years in TVB as an actor. He made his acting debut in 1988, but was only known for his supporting roles in television. The big break came when he starred in the 1995 TVB series From Act to Act. His role in the series thrust him into the limelight and he went from a supporting actor to a bankable star. However, as soon as he established himself as one of TVB's most popular actors, he left the network and tried his hand at being a film actor.
Gordon recalled an incident when friends asked him if he was interested in making a comeback on TVB. However, he said that aside from having no time, he really enjoys being an actor, as well as a producer. He noted that he would prefer if TVB would give him half a year to produce a drama instead of shooting for and acting in a drama for three months. "I'd be happier," he saod.
Being a producer has surely worked in Gordon's favor as the film he first produced, the action comedy film Gallants became one of the top-grossing movies in Hong Kong back in 2010. It even won the Best Film award at the 30th Hong Kong Film Awards.
As for why he would rather produce than act for TVB, Gordon explained that the network has a roster of young actors, who, while they show great potential, are yet to learn how to properly showcase them. Gordon bluntly said that he can tell TVB is experiencing difficulties in coming up with great dramas that could help young stars develop their skills.
"My experience tells me that, besides working hard in your performance, the producer and director also need to spend time in cultivating that person to a star," he said. Although he stressed that he understands the time limitations TV companies like TVB have, he noted that it is also important to have good training, because according to him, if the training is insufficient, "everything gets less effective."
