Japanese car manufacturer Mazda unveiled the MX-5 Miata RF at the New York International Auto Show, where it was met with favorable cheers. The new Miata RF sports a hardtop, which is one of its many upgrades from the standard Miata soft-top.

One more thing that makes the Mazda MX-5 Miata RF stand out of from its standard counterpart is its unique TFT display located at the right hand of the instrument panel. While the standard soft-top Miata RF only sports a simple low resolution black-and-white display, the Miata RF has a fully colored one that shows information with crisp and bright detail.

The Miata RF also sports Nappa leather interior, which is not available in the soft-top model. Experts have noted  that the leather interior of the Miata RF adds a premium touch to the car. On the other hand, leather seating is available for regular Miata models provided customers pick the Grand Touring trim level.

In a statement acquired by Ars Technica, Mazda North America design director Julien Montousse sai, "We employ something called the 'ideal state process.' We shoot the moon and then back-cast the engineering to achieve it."

It is clear that the Mazda MX-5 Miata RF took some of its inspiration from the RX Vision concept. Instead of putting emphasis on the car's edge detail, the surfaces are allowed to take on the properties of the car's interior environment.

Regarding its price, Mazda is yet to announce how much the new Miata RF will cost once it hits showrooms. Previous retractable hardtop Miata models have sold for about $25,000 to $35,000, according to The Verge. Experts believe that the new Miata RF's price should be somewhere around that range.

As for the release date, experts estimate that the new Mazda MX-5 Miata RF should arrive at dealerships either later in 2016 or early in 2017.
