Google codenamed the upcoming version of the Android operating system as Android L. The Android L was speculated to stand for lollipop. However, many leaks are circulating the Internet, suggesting that the upcoming version of the most popular mobile operating system could actually be called Android LMP which stands for Lemon Meringue Pie.

Google introduced Android L at the I/O 2014 event but it did not reveal its commercial dessert name for the platform release. Before the Google developers event, a website from Bulgaria said that Android 5.0 Lollipop is the company's upcoming Android version but the name did not receive confirmation. Android Police found several evidence that suggest Android L may actually be Android Lemon Meringue Pie (LMP) on its launch this coming fall. It supposedly found several official code sources and documentation which list the upcoming release as LMP.

The existing preview builds of the Nexus 7 and Nexus 5 Android L are listed a lmp-review-release in Android SDK. There were a few more LMP mentions on the Android Open Source Project repository. The WiFi certification documentation for the HTC Nexus 9 also listed the firmware as LMP. The firmware states "aosp_flounder-userdebug L LMP eng.buildteam.20140725.184742test-key, WiFi component: 7.26.5.

Google is speculated to debut Android L sometime in the fall alongside the new Nexus hardware. The updated system factory images of Android L bring support for Google Fit, the company's health-tracking platform. The Mountain View company released the preview software development kit (SDK) to help developers build fitness and health apps for Google Fit on Aug. 21.
