The vehicles, according to the team, will become available to China's entirekj police enforcement soon.
China's 1.3 billion population will be able to sleep more peacefully at night knowing that criminals and outlaws can no longer hide themselves in crowds. According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, the high technology sports utility vehicle (SUV) is installed with a rooftop camera that gives police officers a 360 degree view of an area expanding to up to 60 meters in radius.
Faces caught by the recognition software are compared and contrasted against the ones documented in the database of China police. If a match comes up, the police will immediately be alerted even if the patrol vehicle is in motion as fast as 120 kph.
The system can also recognize identities even if it catches only 75 percent of the face, an advancement that may become a trend all over the world in the future, according to technology critics, who likewise note that the United Arab Emirates has already spearheaded the same advancement last year.
Moreover, the software system also boasts of an ability to recognize car types and models, as well as license plates. The vehicle was launched last week in the town of Chengdu, capital of Sichuan in Southwestern China.
