Speculations abound that the Premier League side is keen on getting the services of Mourinho in the summer to replace current head coach Louis van Gaal following a lackluster and disappointing season by the perennial English powerhouse squad.

There were also reports that the 53-year-old bench tactician already had secret talks with United and that he had given the team until May 1 to finalize his appointment as the new boss at Old Trafford or else he will accept offers from other clubs.

From the looks of it, the rival offers are already coming even before the said self-imposed deadline.

The Sun reported that Mourinho "has emerged as a top target for the management job of the Syrian national team" after a letter written in Spanish was said to be recently sent by the SFA to his agent Jorge Mendes, which the former has not yet responded to at the moment.

Understandably, Mourinho seems to be waiting for his ultimatum to the Red Devils to pass before he responds to the Syrian national team offer.

In the letter addressed to Mendes' company called "Gestifute", the SFA, through its secretary general Kouteiba al-Refai, said that "We are getting in touch to make you aware of our interest in making an official offer to sign Jose Mourinho as the new manager of the Syrian national team, which has just qualified for the third phase of the Asian qualifying competition for the World Cup in Russia 2018".

Caught Offside noted that the Qasioun Eagles are intending for Mourinho "to guide them to the 2018 World Cup", something that the team has never qualified into in their history.
