Emilia Clarke plays the female lead in the upcoming romantic-drama film 'Me Before You.' She has admitted that she fought for the role since she related very well with the character Louisa Clark.

Clarke revealed that she was wanted the role of Louisa more than anything after being sent the script. "I read it and it just... literally from the first chapter, I was like, 'This is me! Oh my God, I've got to do it!' Genuinely, never in my life, have I wanted a part more than this," she said.

The 29-year old English actress claims to have identified with Louisa's loveable yet clumsy and awkward nature. "I was running and fell over - idiot!... In true Lou fashion though," she joked.

Although Clarke is best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in HBO's highly popular television series 'Game of Thrones,' she admitted that she is more of Louisa than the Khaleesi.

Clarke highlighted the differences between playing two completely contrasting characters. As an actor, you want to be able to show a character's growth. It's fulfilling. And I'm very close to Lou as a person. At school I was uncertain and unsure. So there was a sincerity that I was so desperate to play, because with Daenerys I've spent a career putting armor on," she said.

The upcoming film is based on a novel written by Jojo Moyes. The original book was first published in January 2012 in the United Kingdom and was received positively by critics.

Louisa is introduced in the book as an unambitious young woman who loses her job at a local café only to find out that it would lead to massive changes in her life. She becomes a job center assistant tasked with taking care of a handsome yet arrogant disabled man who she eventually falls in love with.

Sam Claflin of 'The Hunger Games' joins the cast as Clarke's on-screen love interest William Traynor. A new extended trailer for 'Me Before You' was recently released and featured Clarke and Claflin as bickering young lovers with a tragic fate reminiscent of Nick Cassavetes' romantic-drama film adaptation 'The Notebook.'

'Me Before You' is an upcoming American romantic drama film directed by Thea Sharrock. It stars Clarke, Claflin, Matthew Lewis, Jenna Coleman and Charles Dance. It is scheduled to premiere in theaters on June 3, 2016.
