Charlize Theron has spoken out against the unrealistic beauty standards imposed by Hollywood. Theron revealed the difficulties of being "beautiful" in the movie industry. She is set to reunite with 'Young Adult' director Jason Reitman and writer Diablo Cody for an upcoming film.

According to the Guardian, the 40-year old South African actress expressed her antagonism against the stereotypical view of female beauty imposed by society as well as in Hollywood.

"We live in a society where women wilt and men age like fine wine. And, for a long time, women accepted it... We were waiting for society to change, but now we're taking leadership. It would be a lie to say there is less worry for women as they get older than there is for men... It feels there's this unrealistic standard of what a woman is supposed to look like when she's over 40," she said.

Theron is not only known for her critically-acclaimed roles in numerous full-feature films throughout her career, but also for being outspoken towards issues that plague the modern woman. In addition to spearheading charities and projects, she actively campaigns for women's rights organizations for gender equality.

The actress said that being beautiful in Hollywood could be difficult when it came to getting roles in films and television. She told British GQ, "Jobs with real gravitas go to people that are physically right for them and that's the end of the story. How many roles are out there for the gorgeous, f..king, gown-wearing eight-foot model?... "When meaty roles come through, I've been in the room and pretty people get turned away first."

Despite being one of the most beautiful faces in the industry, Theron has broke through the stereotypical "pretty girl" barrier with roles in several blockbuster films where she had to change her appearance drastically.

For Patty Jenkins' 2008 film 'Monster,' Theron gained 30 pounds and wore teeth and skin prosthetics to resemble real-life serial killer Aileen Wuornos. She also shaved her head in George Miller's 'Mad Max: Fury Road' as the soldier Imperator Furiosa.

Meanwhile, Deadline reported that Theron is in talks to reunite with Jason Reitman and writer Diablo Cody for a yet untitled new project. The three previously worked together for the 2011 comedy-drama film 'Young Adult.'

Theron is set to star in upcoming films such as Cedric Nicolas-Troyan's 'The Huntsman: Winter's War,' Travis Knight's 'Kubo and the Two Strings,' Sean Penn's 'The Last Face,' Gerard Barrett's 'Brain on Fire,' and David Leitch's 'The Coldest City.'
