His spokesman said that the billionaire owned 80% stake of Hangzhou Wahaha Group Co, this has made his net worth at $21.6 billion. This has made him the richest man in the world.
Zong was not born with a golden spoon in the mouth. He worked as a shopkeeper .In 1989 he eventually opens the Wahaha Nutritional Food Factory. Wahaha means "laughing children".In 1991 his company moved to a canning company.
His company is now the largest soft drink supplier in China next to Cola Cola and Tingyi Holding Co.
According to Bloomberg:
"Zong has made himself a billionaire by staying in the right industry, positioning Wahaha well and eventually seizing the opportunity of growth in smaller Chinese cities," said Zhang Lu, an analyst at Capital Securities Corp. (6005) in Shanghai. "Given the fact that Wahaha is already a well-known brand domestically, disclosing his share and wealth would help to boost the global profile of both Wahaha and Zong himself."
Despite of being a billionaire he does not live a luxurious lifestyle unlike other billionaires. In fact,he only spends not more than $20 a day.
In his interview with Nick Rosen he said ""My only exercise is doing market research...my only hobbies are smoking and drinking tea."
In fact, he eats the same food as his workers.
Not only is he modest - he's frugal. Perhaps one of Zong's secrets to success is his tendency to keep track of every dollar spent by the company, a trait he carries over to his personal finances.
Maybe one of the secrets of Zong's success is that he tracks every expense of the company. This is also the same practice that he does with his personal expenses.
Zong believes that hard work and wise spending are the reasons why he is in the billionaires list.
