A screenshot of the holiday notice made rounds across Chinese social media on Thursday, with the caption "Even if there will be another Kobe, we won't have another youth to dedicate ourselves to them."
"I feel sad that I didn't have a chance to see my idol in a live game, but he has now left the court," Yang told Qianjiang Evening News. "He is such an inspiration. Talented and hardworking."
Meanwhile, the "Kobe day off" news also sparked a discussion on Weibo.
"The best boss. Why don't I have one?" a user commented.
Meanwhile, the hashtag #IWantThursdayOff trended across Weibo, and it was been searched more than 15,000 times on Thursday. Avid Chinese fans of Kobe also shared their stories and memories of the legendary basketball superstar.
"I should have thanked Bryant for helping complete my youth," a Weibo user posted. "My high school memories of happiness when watching his slam dunks still linger in my mind."
After triumphantly taking on the Jazz on Wednesday night, Bryant finally bid goodbye to his two-decade basketball career and to his fans across the world. His last game with Utah Jazz at the Staples Center on Wednesday ended in a 101-96 win, with Kobe scoring 60 points.
