Apple has announced that it will officially stop offering iTunes Allowances because it became obsolete with other iTunes features.
In a supporting document and emails to the customers, Apple said that they can no longer create new Allowance. After May 25, all existing allowances will be cancelled and any remaining credit will be left in primary iTunes accounts.

The feature allowed parents to input into their child’s account a set amount per month that could be spent on the content available in iTunes, giving them a way of controlling spending. Kids will receive a fixed amount of iTunes credit every month from their parents to spend on App Store and iTunes purchases. Once the limit was used up, it immediately turned off a child’s iTunes spending as soon as the amount was reached each month.
The Cupertino-based tech company recommends a good alterative called Family Sharing. Family Sharing includes features like Ask To Buy, which requires parental permission when a child tries to buy an app or game. It allows up to six people to share media purchases, including iTunes music, movies, TV shows, books and apps, without having to share accounts. The new service also allows to share media such as photos a family calendar and more between devices, including iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac.
Family Sharing’s idea is that purchases could be paid for using one credit card, while parents could also approve kids’ spending requests from their own devices. It was a feature introduced alongside iOS 8, OS X Yosemite, and iTunes 12. PC users can also use this feature via iCloud for Windows.
Moreover, there is additional option called iTunes Gifts. It allows people to send money or specific downloads to another person, related or not.
