Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is reportedly set to move to the English Premier League next season but with incoming manager Pep Guardiola's Manchester City squad and not with former boss Jürgen Klopp's Liverpool side.

The 25-year-old German footballer is rumored to be targeted by Klopp, the current Reds coach and Gundogan's former mentor in Dortmund during his first four seasons with the Bundesliga club, for a summer swoop this offseason.

Caught Offside noted that the 48-year-old bench tactician is keen on importing "all of his former Borussia Dortmund superstars to England when he gets control of the transfer purse this summer".

However, he now faces "a bit of a rocky start" as the 5-foot-11 Gelsenkirchen, Germany native had already "sealed the deal" with City in a reported £30 million transfer move which gave him a five-year contract with the Citizens starting next season.

The report continued that Guardiola, who will take over Manuel Pellegrini's post at the Etihad this summer, is intending to plunder the Bundesliga "for the necessary talent" this offseason as City is said to be aiming for no less than the Premier League title in 2016-2017.

Football Insider cited local German media outlet Bild am Sonntag as the source of the news, saying that Guardiola had "sanctioned a move for Gundogan" and the EPL squad had already "clinched a deal for one of the Bundesliga's biggest stars".

It was also said that the Borussians are "holding out for a £34 million fee" for the Germany international, who is only a year away from expiring his contract with the Bundesliga giants.

There were also rumors that Gundogan almost signed with City's neighborhood rivals, Manchester United, last year, but the deal fell through with Guardiola speculated as playing a key role behind the breakdown.

Guardiola is allegedly a firm admirer of Gundogan as the player had given Bayern Munich "fits on numerous occasions" and so the Spanish manager wants him at his side this time around.
