GameStop has announced its expansion into video game publishing, launching its own publishing label called GameTrust.
GameTrust will team up with of independent developers including Ready At Dawn (“God of War: Origins Collection,” “The Order: 1886”), Tequila Works (“Deadlite,” “Rime”), and Frozenbyte (“Trine”). GameStop noted that the publishing label is not part of the creative game-making process. It will focus its investment to exclusive online and physical stores, offering players access to new games available across multiple platforms such as digital, physical, console, PC and VR.

"GameTrust will revolutionize the game development and distribution process by offering a new way for independent developers to create and introduce their own IP to a broad gaming audience and for gamers to discover and enjoy exclusive new video game experiences," the company said.
The new game publishing label will be a new way for developers to come out with games. More importantly, it will help GameStop to generate more income since its main business of selling new and used games and consoles has been struggling to increase, with digital sales becoming a bigger part of its business.
VP of Internal Development and Diversification Mark Stanley said that GameTrust is in talks with 20 other developers, and the company plans to release five to ten games annually. It also appears that GameTrust is targeting the indie market and other non-AAA titles that might have a problem reaching audiences without a big publisher at their back.
In addition, GameStop will announce new developers and new games that will be published through GameTrust soon.
