With the rising trend of marital infidelity, a new innovation in the form of a ‘smart mattress’ promises to be of help – for a price.
The mattress called ‘Smarttress,’ was made by Spain-based mattress company Durmet. This new mattress works in tandem with a smartphone app to alert owners if it is being used for something that it should not be, such as cheating.

The Smarttress is fitted with what is called a ‘Lover Detection System:’ 24 sensors attached all throughout the mattress’ springs to detect action and vibrations, and then send out ultrasonic waves that are picked up by a receiver. With this, the mattress is able to detect bed activity, measuring its duration, ‘impact per minute’ and intensity.
The Smarttress then alerts owners of any suspicious activities performed on top of the mattress, indicating the said metrics. This is particularly helpful for those who are often out of the house, or for paranoid spouses with unfaithful partners.
One downside, however, is its high price: a whopping $1,750. According to Engadget, the Smarttress’ batteries run out, especially when it is needed to work, and it quickly turns into an expensive spring-based mattress.
Durmet notes that with the current infidelity rates (that are boosted by Facebook and WhatsApp), the Smarttress will be more ‘faithful’ than most partners are. Some buyers have already preordered some units.
