Emojis are cute if you can use them with just a tap of your finger, but what if you have to draw them one by one?
A professor in Chengdu's University of Electronic Science and Technology rolled out a new punishment for his tardy students: write 1,000 emojis by hand. Photos of university students copying emojis from mobile phones and their handwritten work are spreading like wildfire in China. Their papers were filled with simple and complex emoticons.

Some netizens criticized the professor, suggesting other punishments that can teach the students something while others took the lighthearted approach and laughed at the students' situation.
This is not the first time a Chinese teacher disciplined the students in an unconventional way. Last year, it was reported that Wang Sijun, a professor in Sichuan province, force tardy students to write the most difficult Chinese character. "Biang" is dubbed as the most difficult to write in Chinese, it is not even a part of the Modern Standard Mandarin.
The Chinese character is made up of 62 pen strokes. Wang's late students are forced to write the character 1,000 times by hand. Local media said that only two have received the punishment. One student asked to draw 100 Terracotta Warriors instead of 1,000 "biang," while the other one gave up after the 200th time and asked Wang to turn the remaining into community service.
Meanwhile in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, a kindergarten teacher admitted to organizing a boxing match for her young students. She got the idea to pit the students against each other "because they were all so energetic."
Five boys were injured and one even suffered from misaligned spine.
The teacher has been suspended.
