Nintendo announced last week that it is adding popular video game titles like 'Fire Emblem' and 'Animal Crossing' to its growing lineup of smartphone games. While the news was well received by the gaming community, especially Nintendo fans, some analysts are skeptical as to why Nintendo picked those two specific titles.

During the recent Nintendo earnings report, current president Tatsumi Kimishima disclosed the reasons why the company selected 'Fire Emblem' and 'Animal Crossing.'
In a statement, Kimishima said, "We chose Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem as titles to follow Miitomo from the viewpoint of increasing the diverse types of consumers interested in Nintendo, and widening opportunities for gameplay."
He added that 'Animal Crossing' has a diverse audience ranging from children to women.
As for 'Fire Emblem,' Kimishima said that the franchise may not be as mainstream as 'Animal Crossing' but the company is attempting to make the franchise appeal to "diehard fans." Nintendo is positive that by picking these two titles, it will be able to reach as many gamers as possible.
Despite these explanations, fans and critics are still wondering if Nintendo can reach the expectations of its customers. Not much has been revealed regarding the gameplay mechanics of both games since they are crossing over to the mobile platform.
Nintendo has promised that the mobile versions of the two games will be more accessible to gamers. The Japanese company has also promised that the games will bring great value.
Another unanswered rumor is whether the mobile versions of 'Fire Emblem' and 'Animal Crossing' will be linked to their respective console versions. Should Nintendo decide to go this path, many analysts believe that it might help sell the products due to its cross-platform gameplay compatibility.
