The United Nations recently published a startling new report surrounding the effects of air pollution. According to their study, air pollution has caused more total deaths than malaria and AIDS combined. Moreover, the research revealed that the statistics is only growing.
In 2012, the U.N. conducted the same study, and during that time less than 2 million people suffer from premature deaths caused by outdoor air pollution. The most recent report clearly showed that the numbers have gone up by 30 percent. More than 3 million people died from the effects of outdoor air pollution every year, compared to the 1.7 million AIDS related deaths and 660,000 malaria casualties.

Thankfully, tech companies from around the globe are working towards developing products and services that would lower the damning effect of air pollution. In fact, just this week, Tesla Motors tested a new feature for their automobile units that would be able to filter smog before a passenger enters the car.
Two days ago, in May 2, Tesla Motors published a statement regarding their HEPA Filter and Bioweapon Defense Mode on their official website.
According to the press release, the HEPA filtration system is designed to strip outside air of pollen, bacteria and pollution before the user enters the car's cabin. Moreover, the company's Bioweapon Defense Mode, which works alongside the HEPA filtration system, boosts the capabilities of a Tesla car's air filter by 300 times against bacteria, 700 times against smog and 800 times against viruses. The new Tesla mode is also equipped to withstand military grade bioweapons. It is also capable of cleaning the air outside of the car.
"Bioweapon Defense Mode is not a marketing statement, it is real. You can literally survive a military grade bio attack by sitting in your car. Moreover, it will also clean the air outside your car, making things better for those around you," read a part of Tesla's recently released official statement.
The company has since published a video, as reported by BGR, showing proof of the efficacy of the HEPA filtration system and the Bioweapon Defense Mode against prevalent air pollution.
