He's been known for his curly long locks but, Harry Styles has finally gone for a haircut.

The 22-year-old former One Direction member recently chopped off his famous long hair and teased his 17 million Instagram followers by posting a photo of him holding what seems to be his ponytail.

The photo which was posted on Friday evening sent fans on a frenzy with many demanding that he post a selfie to show his new hairstyle. He simply captioned the teasing photo with 'Whoops' but gave a clue to his reasons for the major makeover in his hashtags.

The kind-hearted singer hashtagged the Little Princess Trust Charity, a non-profit organization that provides wigs for children who suffer from cancer. Harry had previously revealed that he was growing his hair for charity during an appearance on The James Corden Show after Corden grilled him about his long locks by asking him if Prince Harry asked him about his famous hairstyle during One Direction's appearance at the Royal Variety Performance, to which Harry answered "Well I'm growing it until it reaches at least nine inches because that's the minimum length charities require before you can donate your hair."

Comment's on the ponytail post ranged from excited to sad with one fan commenting "I am literally crying right now" while one fan commented by saying "I am heartbroken."

Aside from donating to charity, the haircut could also have something to do with his big screen debut. iN March, it was revealed that Harry landed a part in Christopher Nolan's War Epic 'Dunkirk'  which will start shooting later this month.
