Victoria Azarenka ended Aleksandra Krunic's stomp over top seeds en route to her third consecutive quarterfinals appearance at the U.S. Open in Flushing Meadows on Monday night.
The Serbian qualifier Krunic took the first set after an opportunity was given to her to break Azarenka but the two-time Australian Open champion came back on the second set out of a break of her own to send the match into a tie-breaking set.

The third set was more of the same as the 25-year-old Azarenka converted most of her second serves to outlast the 21-year-old Serb, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, in two hours and 19 minutes.
The former World No. 1 Azarenka ended the streak of Krunic who defeated 27th-seeded American Madison Keys in the second round and Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova in the third but despite the loss, she did however entered the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her young career.
Marched to his third consecutive quarters in the tournament and hopes to reach the finals in those three years. She ended up second to Serena Williams in the past two years of the event.
Standing 6-foot flat, Azarenka was surprised at how powerful the smaller 5 ft 5 ½ Krunic is.
"I was a little bit surprised that she's not that tall, and she hits the ball and unleashes her forehand with so much power," said Azarenka.
Her next match will be against Ekaterina Makarova who earlier defeated a worn out Canadian star Eugenie Bouchard, 7(7)-6(2), 6-4.
"I think she's a very tough opponent because she's very consistent," Azarenka said of Makarova. "She reads the game very well. We had some tough matches in the past."
If Azarenka wins against Makarova and Williams defeats Flavia Pennetta in the quarters, the two will be facing each other in the semis for a finals rematch.
