Texans and J.J.Watt Agree on Six-Year $100 million deal

Defensive end J.J.Watt have reached an agreement with the Houston Texas for a new contract that can make him $100 million richer in six years, according to league sources.

The deal will pay the 11th overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft a guaranteed $51.8 million, the highest offer for a defensive player in NFL history. The annual value amounting to $16.6 million is also considered the highest for a defensive end.

Back in August, the 25-year-old football star expressed that he was hoping to earn a new contract. He stated that with the new collective bargaining agreement, players are expected to earn their right for big paydays.

(“Whatever I can do to help the team win, I will do,” said Watt.)

In the same month, Bob McNair, owner of the Texans, explained that the team is willing to apply changes in Watt's contract if the move made sense. Also, he also pointed out that the team is willing to use the franchise tag on Watt after the final year of his rookie deal twice, if needed.

Before picking up the 5th year option of Watt's deal, both sides had discussions leaving Watt locked in for $6.969 million for the 2015 season. According to a report from The Houston Chronicle, the agreement was completed Monday night.

Considered as one of the best defensive linemen in the league, Watt said last month that he will not get into the business side of the team.

"The business side of things is the business side. Right now I'm in football mode, so I worry about that. If the time comes that I need to get involved in the business side, I will."

Watt as well as the Texans wanted to be on the same page for the longest possible time.

Watt expressed his love for the fans and how the city treated him and his family. On the other hand, McNair previously stated that the team wants Watt to stay for a long time.
