Chinese photo-editing app maker Meitu Technology Co., Ltd. is gearing up to launch its latest smartphone in China that will feature two very powerful 21 megapixel front and rear-facing cameras. The new smartphone recently got certified by the telecommunications equipment certification center TENAA, which is the Chinese equivalent of the FCC in the United States.

For those who don't know, Meitu was founded in 2008 in the city of Xiamen by entrepreneur Cai Wensheng. The company currently manufactures smartphones and is also in the business of developing image-editing software applications that provide numerous tools and functions for editing photos.

According to TENAA, the smartphone sports a 5.0-inch display screen with a 1,920 x 1,080 pixel resolution (Full HD), and features two 21 megapixel cameras on both sides of the device. Under the hood, the phone is equipped with MediaTek's Helio P10 processor, 3GB of RAM, and is expected to come with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system out of the box.

Design-wise, the device looks identical to Meitu's V4 smartphone (diamond-like shape) that was launched in 2015, however, this model sports a gold metallic chassis with white panels on the front and backside of the device, according to Giz China. Unfortunately, TENAA's listing did not provide any more details for the rest of the specifications. Since the phone already passed certification, it could arrive in the Chinese market sometime this month.

In the meantime, Meitu's products have continued to dominate selfie-editing apps in China, attracting about 360 million monthly active users. Meitu XiuXiu or Meitu Pic is one of the company's most popular software products launched in 2013. This app provides users with many tools for editing images such as filters, Auto enhance, Magic Brush, frames, beauty retouch and collage. Meitu Pic was developed by Wu Xinhong, who is the current Chief Executive Officer of Meitu.
