Verizon Increases Data Limits for Smartphone Pre-Paid Plans

Verizon stated that the new set of pre-paid plans will take effect starting on May 15.

(Photo : Reuters) Verizon has stated that its new set of prepaid plans will take effect on Monday, May 15.

Verizon has unveiled new pre-paid plans that will allow its subscribers to have more control over their mobile service.

Its $45 per month tier will offer 3GB of data compared to the 1GB previously. It comes with 1GB of AutoPay Bonus Data with unlimited talk and text in the United States and text to Mexico and Canada. Next to the offering is the $60 plan of 6GB of data with 1GB of AutoPay Bonus data and unlimited talk and text in the U.S. and unlimited text and calling to Mexico and Canada.

To get all of that additional data, the subscriber must agree to use auto pay so that Big Red can zap the monthly amount out of the bank account. If the user does not agree with the AutoPay, the amount of data for each tier is reduced by 1GB. The $45 plan will only have 2GB of data, while the $60 plan provides just 5GB. But it still represents a bump in data for Verizon's pre-paid subscribers.

For basic phone users, Verizon has a pre-paid offer of $30 monthly for unlimited talk, text and mobile web. They can also spend $15 for any combination of talk and text equalling 300 minutes, and unlimited mobile web.

“Whether you’re just starting out with your own wireless plan or simply love to have complete control of your wireless spending, prepaid plans give you the best network on the latest phones. Prepaid plans from Verizon keep you in control without the worry of overages or hidden fees,” said Rob Miller, vice president of consumer pricing of Verizon, in a blog post.

The new plans of Verizon is an attempt of the company to compete against T-Mobile, as the scrappy “Un-carrier” has been winning users over with similar, no-nonsense payment models.

The American wireless carrier stated that the new set of pre-paid plans will take effect starting on May 15.
