Amazon has revealed that its Dash Button has a Wi-Fi button that would help connecting to the worldwide web for virtual activities.

The giant online retailer company adds AWS IoT Button. AWS stands for Amazon's Web Services. In short, Amazon has produced its own IoT cloud on its Dash Button. AWS IoT is fully programmable and able to trigger all sorts of things with a single press or combination of presses. Amazon pitches it as a potential control point for smart home lighting.

It is the same old Wi-Fi button, but currently it is connected to logic stored up in Amazon Web Services. So, instead of pushing the button to order Charmin toilet paper, user can program it. Amazon said that it can be used. Some ideas include unlocking or starting the car, call a cab or even inquiring to customer service representative. Also, it can be used at home by tracking the household chores, medications or controlling home appliances.

“The button can be used as a remote control for Netflix, a switch for your Philips Hue light bulb, a check-in/check-out device for Airbnb guests, or a way to order your favorite pizza for delivery. You can integrate it with third-party APIs like Twitter, Facebook, Twilio, Slack or even your own company's applications,” Amazon said in a statement,

Its downside is the battery life. When it gets drained, user would not be able to recharge or replace the battery, according to Amazon. The battery is rated for 1,000 pushes. It is not for everyone.

The programmable button comes at a significant price tag, which is $20, and it is only meant for developers. Amazon may release it on May 15 although its page says that it is unavailable.
