South Korean tech giant Samsung has filed a patent application for a wearable device that has integrated projectors. Many tech analysts believe that these projectors can display a user-interface in pre-defined spaces, and can also take inputs from users based on direct interactions on those pre-defined spaces.

Based on some of the illustrations taken from the patent filling, the projector can map out the space of the user's hand, and then projects a screen that can fit within the confines of that hand. The projection not only works on the back of the user's hand, it can also be projected downwards along a user's arm, or upwards into a user's fingers.
Based on the documents, the wearable device can also project on walls, which will allow users to render a larger screen version of the user-interface of the smartwatch.
Aside from these hand-based projections, the same technology can also be used with head-mounted displays like virtual reality and augmented reality headsets. This will allow users to project images from their virtual reality headsets to a wall.
Additional sketches taken from the patent filling shows the wearable device projecting a dial pad, menu options, notifications, as well as a writing surface projected on the back of the user's forearm and hand.
The wearable devices appears to support an omni-directional lens, which many believe can be used to capture images of the area being operated by the projected user-interface.
The patent also reveals three smart devices that will integrate this user-interface technology. These devices are the wearable ring, a wearable headband, and a wearable belt.
Despite the interesting features presented on the patent documents, there is no certainty that Samsung is actually developing the technology. While there are many who are skeptical about the existence of the project, a significant portion of the tech community are excited to see if Samsung can deliver on such revolutionary technology.
