Months before the release of the highly anticipated Suicide Squad, Warner Bros. is already working on a Harley Quinn spinoff movie with Margot Robbie set to reprise her role as the anti-heroine.

However, the film will not be a solo Harley Quinn spinoff and will also include a squad of DC Comics' female heroes and villains. The film's details have been kept under wraps but characters such as Batgirl and Birds of Prey have been associated with the project.

The film will not only see Robbie as the baseball bat-wielding villain but also in a producer's capacity. Although it has not been confirmed who will be in charge of writing the script, what we do know is that, like its cast, the writer is also female.

According to a source, Robbie was the one responsible for getting the project off the ground. Robbie fell in love with DC Comics' host of female characters while working on David Ayer's upcoming Suicide Squad and enlisted a female writer to start working on the project for Warner Bros.

Robbie recently said in an interview with Indiewire that she "wants to keep looking for roles where the main interest will be in the character and her importance in driving a story forward, rather than her relationship with a male character."

You can see Robbie as Harley Quinn alonside Cara Delevingne, Jared Leto, Will Smith and Jai Courney in Suicide Squad when it hits theaters on Aug. 5. Robbie also stars opposite Alexander Skarsgard in Legend of Tarzan, which opens on July 1.
