The former world No. 1 Tennis doubles player Peng Shuai of China will be going up against fellow Chinese player Zhao Di, who is currently ranked 484 in the world, in an ITF women's tennis tournament ($50,000 Zhengzhou) on Wednesday.

Peng, who is a two-time Grand Slam doubles champion and 2014 U.S. Open singles semifinalist, said on Monday that she is trying to get back her competing form for the upcoming Olympic Games in August following a serious back injury that forced her out of the 2015 French Open and sidelined her for the rest of the year, according to Sina.

"There is not much time left until the Rio Olympics"Peng said. "I am tuning up for probably my last Olympics."

"I am not good enough yet to return to WTA action," she added.

The 30-year-old Xiangtan, Hunan native, who underwent a series of back surgeries last year, saw her world ranking fall to 281 in singles and 287 in doubles.

The Chinese tennis star returned to WTA games in March this year. However, Peng lost and ended her comeback campaign in both her Miami Masters singles and doubles in the second round. Peng participated in the Volvo Cars Open in April but failed to advance to the second round of the tournament.

Then Peng turned to ITF events, where she managed to reach the final stage of an ITF event in Kunming, China, early this month. But she was forced to withdraw from action after feeling discomfort in her back.

Peng, who reached her career-high singles ranking as world No. 14 on August 22, 2011, is now the symbol of Chinese women's tennis since fellow 'Golden Flower' Li Na retired with two Grand Slam titles.
