The Chinese women's team proved superior to the Spanish team as they secured a 5-0 victory over them to advance to the quarterfinal stage of the premiere badminton team championships Total BWF Uber Cup Finals 2016 on Tuesday at the Kunshan Sports Center in Jiangsu, China.
According to Xinhua, China's current world No. 6 Wang Shixian got the better of the reigning world No.1 Carolina Marin, who eliminated her at the World Championships last year, in an hour and 27 minutes match. Despite losing the first game, the Suzhou, Jiangsu native badminton ace bounced back and won the last two sets 19-21, 21-18, 21-19.

The victory was important for the 2010 World Championships bronze medalist as she is competing with teammates Wang Yihan and Li Xuerui for the two Olympic berths of women's singles.
"I asked the coach to send me against Marin before this match," said the World No.6, "You need to keep mentally strong when you play against the opponent like Marin, and I did it tonight."
While Wand required three full sets to claim victory, her teammates won their respective matches in an easier way. The world No. 4 Wang Yihan defeated the 23-year-old world No. 38 Beatriz Corrales 21-9, 21-11 in just 29 minutes.
The world No. 13 Sun Yu eased past Spanish youngster Clara Azurmendi in two straight sets 21-8, 21-9. The 22-year-old female Chinese shuttler needed just 30 minutes to defeat her 144th ranked opponent.
In the women's doubles, the pair Chen Qingchen and Tang Jinhua won over the Spanish duo Beatriz Corrales and Lorena Usle 21-5, 21-9. The combination of Tang Yuanting and Yu Yang gave China its fifth victory for the scheduled matches for the day in Group A after the Chinese pair routed the tandem Clara Azurmendi and Laia Oset 21-10, 21-3.
Team China will be facing the team of Denmark on Wednesday night for a semifinals berth.
